Racing in GP mode really changes the way you approach a race
3 laps at the Ring, even if it doesn't seem like a lot, is already a challenge... if you multiply it by each car... either you like the Ring or better you go to something else
With the possibility of restarting the mentality is to run as much as you can and if you kill yourself you restart, which is similar but not the same as saying run as much as you can without killing yourself
When I did the training before this Long Night I realised that if I just kept up the pace of not killing myself it would be too little ... Later in the GP with real damage things would be more interesting
In the previous days I set up a server to liven things up at iGOR and it worked out because we did quite a few practice runs with people on the track, which is much more enjoyable.
I'm not fast but I love being on track with drivers better than me and being able to keep up with them ... so they see what aliens they are when compared to mortals.
I had never ridden with all the cars ... so I had to get used to BRM, Honda, Cooper and Lotus ... With the Eagle I shouldn't have had any problems but it took longer than I expected ... Braby and Ferrari were very good ... then in the runs they gave me the best results.
So when the runs were over it was as if it was all in preparation for a real GP ... I announced that I had my brabham bright and shiny to go
At the start I saw that Lasse wanted to make progress from behind so I overtook him and later Xuggy on the back straight.
A few corners further on Lasse's BRM was pushing and I let myself go just enough to the left to let him pass because my battle was to hold on for the 15 laps, and a few laps of calm are necessary to get a foothold on the track.
Fabian had a small slip up and went behind Xug and Jake dropped out on the first lap when he lost a wheel.
Tim started to show an enviable pace and Lasse left us as he had already announced after a good 3 laps ... It was then that I realised that I was already 2 minutes behind Tim.
My race was to maintain a gap to Xug that had widened to 15 seconds ... the pity is that when he started to catch me he fell on lap 6.
That left me with an even gap to Fabian ... I started to push and managed to widen the gap to 20 seconds with 6 to go.
I eased off a bit to take a breather but he eased off too and on lap 11 I saw him switch off.
That made me with some relaxation to ride a lap slower ... then I thought "Tim is able to be squeezing to see if he can overtake me" ... will it be possible?
The other drivers on the track are the ones that make the race worthwhile ... Tim knew, even though he was 5 minutes ahead of me, that he was forced to finish to win ... otherwise I would have stolen his wallet.
Tim with a splendid pace finally takes me out 6 minutes 3.919s ... thunderous
Great battle with Xuggy and Fabian
A day to remember ... congratulations to all
Regarding the champion Lasse ... fantastic ... congratulations
Thanks to all for the great fun on track
