Quali was okay. I had a very slow start :byebye: and lost a few positions. Bastian Grupp was driving consistent. In lap 6 I tried to overtake his Ferrari on the front straight. I braked too late and went off track. Lap 16 was my fastest. In lap 18 Bastian and Radek collided and I crashed into Radek's Cooper.

Finally I reached Bastian again. I saw he was better in the esses. I tried to stay close behind him to slow him down a little :naughty: in the esses to get a chance to overtake on the front straight. Approaching T1 in our final lap, he stayed right. I was driving to the left of him into T1, where we crashed mid-turn. Sorry to Chris for this mess. :hide: It was a tough chase for me because Bastian was driving very well. It was challenge to compete with him. Well done.

I would like to read how Kelvin experienced this race and his championship victory :pokal:

Best regards,
David

Well, first off all a big THANKS to all the competitors and especially to David, who made this all possible.
As every year, when the year comes to an end I’m very busy, so I’d apologise for being too lazy about writing :hide: . I know that’s an important part of keeping a league interesting for the community.

Hmm so with what should I start with? At the beginning of the 2016 EOLC season, I just raced from race to race and never wasted any thought about championship. There are just too many other, even stronger contenders (esp. Harry, Carsi and Radek) to race against, to have the championship in contemplation.
Till the halfway point of the season I never thought there might be any realistic chance to clinch the title. The Nürburgring race was a pure disaster ;( . I was totally confident that a podium finish with the Brabham at the Green-Hell should be a pure formality. But after one of the most chaotic starts in GPL history and P4 at the end it was a huge bummer.
Race 6 of 9 was at Monza and due to the track’s high speed characteristics there are more points to loose than to gain  . To finish with the Ferrari on the podium was much more than I expected; very intense racing and for sure my toughest race this season :naughty: . But the result didn’t make a swing points wise. After race 6 of 9, it was more of a question if I could outscore Radek for 2nd in the championship.
:kratz: It clarifies if you take a look at the points after race 6 of 9 with the 2 worst results excluded:
Harry: 102 / 102 / 102 / 101 / 99 / 96 : 407 pts
Kelvin: 101 / 101 / 98 / 102 / 100 / 100 : 404 pts
Radek: 99 / DNF / 102 / 99 / 104 / 97 : 404 pts

Well some kind of a swing came with the race at Rouen. To be honest that track isn’t one of my favourites, and I never thought it’s possible for me to win at that venue especially against Harry on Brabham and Gregory on a super fast Lotus. Guess this race was the slowest Rouen EOLC-challenge race ever ;) .
Zandvoort was next, and this place is one of my favourites (if not THE favourite) in terms of GPL-originals  . Rhythm track with a smooth flow, that some how suits my driving style. The pole position (boy that was a close battle in qualifying  ) paved the way for my 2nd win that season  . Well, surprisingly Harry had some major issues in that race, and buried some valuable points in the sand :kratz: .
Suddenly as the dust cleared there was a swing in the standings: +1 when bad results excluded Image. The team’s strategists calculated several different scenarios for the final race of the 2016 EOLC season at Kyalami Image. With the outcome, that 102 pts in the final race will seal the deal on the 2016 championship :deal: . …unless Harry didn’t win with Cooper / Honda or BRM.
Kyalami: For a short moment I played with the idea of racing with the BRM, 'cos there also was a chassis-championship to win :pfeif: . But with the EOLC-championship on the line I rejected that opportunity and chose the strongest horse to achieve that goal. :Brabham
First of all it was really tough to find a setup which is fast and also stable to race with. I had some issues in qualifying that made me a little anxious of loosing the car under race-pressure. The first few laps on cold tyres were critical, but I kept it together. Chris on Lotus was just too fast for me and Harry (also Brabham) was not far behind. The car was on rails and I could slowly but surly expand the gap between me and Harry. Around halfway point the gap was big enough to nurse the Brabham’s V8-engine (little more short shifting) :) . So in retrospect it sounds quite easy, to baby that race home in 2nd to clinch the title. But in reality it wasn’t. The ever present threat of a random failure or maybe be a victim of a disconnect made this race mentally exhausting :buck: .

Finally P2 at the end and the EOLC cup in hands :pokal: ; as I said: Never expected that end-result as the season started.
So time to celebrate and give thanks and hugs to the whole EOLC community for this awesome season. :bounce: :champagner: :prost:

Hope to see all of you at the Lange Ringnacht :deal: , Kelvin :prost:
