Just thought I'd better let you know.

A race of two halves for me. The first 15 laps were great fun, the remainder less so.

Qualified in 4th, but was overly careful at T1 and got passed by Olaf before Campbell, settled in behind and a few laps later Olaf went wide at Church allowing me through. Had a great time battling with Seb's Lotus, for the next 15 laps or so, I showed a wheel a few times but he was resolute in his defence and due to the nature of Thruxton there is little chance of a clean pass unless a driver makes a serious mistake. I did get almost level entering Goodwood once but felt it wasn't going to end well for either of us so dropped back in behind. Eventually a minor lack of concentration put me into the bank at Club, it only felt like a small tap and I decided to continue without pitting. Unfortunately I had passed the pit entrance before it became clear the suspension was damaged so I had to struggle around a full lap before repairs and new tyres putting me a lap down.

The remainder of the race was fairly quiet although another mistake at Club (But not hitting anything) and spinning at Brooklands put me even further behind. I was slowly making ground on Rainer towards the end of the race but he was a long way ahead and probably managing the gap.

So a 4th place start and a 5th place finish, it could have been worse.

Hi Guys,

Wow, John, I sincerely and deeply hope that any 'robust defence' wasn't too robust? The only time I consciously took a defensive line was into the second tight right hander, my braking into Club is how I have to brake and I tried to be as consistent as I can. I saw on the replay that you seemed to have worked that out and unfortunately for me, you were faster out of the final corner after that.

If I was improper at any point, please tell me. If so, I seriously need to reassess my driving. I do not want to piss anyone else off. :hide:

Having said that, I was gutted when you went off. Honestly. Sorry to everyone else for us monopolising the first 15 laps of the stream.

After that, I just kept plugging away but getting no closer to Bjoern, until I buggered it up into turn one and bumped the bank. The suspension was a bit bent but I thought I could survive to the finish. Just made it by a couple of seconds. Phew!

Great race! Looking forward to the next one! Thanks guys.

Cheers,
Seb.

No Seb, I really enjoyed the battle, your driving was impeccable, I can't fault it at all. It was probably the most fun I've had racing GPL in a very long time. :daumenrauf:

This track had less tyre wear and for me it didn't require any pit stops. I assumed the competition would be tough at Thruxton which has its own unique character. We raced here two years ago and I had the same car then.
Surprisingly I qualified better than I expected. In the race I kept the position and had distance from behind to Seb. André had a very good pace and disappeared early, but I managed to stay on the same lap to the finish.

Before qualifying started, I was stressed by a thunderstorm, waited the longest to turn on the PC. I was going to test drive and didn't get around the track before the power went out. The power outage had nothing to do with the thunderstorm, there were other reasons. I had turned off the power switches to the components to do a controlled start-up when the power came back on, which happened at 19:45.
I forgot to turn on the power to the steering wheel-pedals-shifter before starting GPL. This doesn't work with my setup, had to delete controls.cfg and restore from backup, which is my emergency routine, but then I made another mistake that caused new problems. I got started a minute after qualifying had started.
Luckily, I found my rhythm and was able to concentrate on driving and had a nice race. :)

Congratulations to André for a solid win and to Seb for joining us on the podium!

Thank you all for the race, see you at Silverstone

After a good start I quickly built a gap back to Bjørn.

Planned for one stop, and stopped on lap 23.
Just managed to get out in front of Bjørn, and with cold tires I was under pressure the first lap. He then made a mistake out of Church and I was able to pull away again.

Congratulations to Bjørn and Seb for joining me on the podium.

See you all at Silverstone.
