A messy qualifying from me. Ended up a bit of my pre-qual time. Still good enough to snatch pole.

After a good start I quickly built up a gap back to John.

I planned for a non stop, and it work out. But I wouldn’t say we’ll. Had really slippery tires the last 15 to 20 laps.

Congratulations to Olaf and John for joining me on the podium.

See you all at Zolder.

Well, a race of extreme highs and lows from me, I just didn't feel happy around here and was really suprised to qualify in 2nd, still in a state of shock I completely fluffed the start and was passed by Rainer's Honda before the 1st turn. He them ran wide at the hairpin and I regained 2nd place with Seb hot on my heels.

Then I pushed it a bit too hard coming off the final corner and caught the outside kerb and spun into the barrier dropping me behind everyone apart from Rainer. The car didn't feel right and also it quickly became apparent I had an engine problem as Rainer's Honda breezed past me on the SF straight and I couldn't even get into 5th on the back straight so stopped for repairs and tyres around lap 9 and rejoined way off the back of the field with Andre already showing in my mirrors.

Let him through putting me a lap down. Passed Olaf when he pitted and tracked Andre until around mid race when he ran wide at Fahreriagekurve and finally I got back on the lead lap.

Ran until around lap 38 about half a lap down on the leaders and suddenly noticed Seb dropping down the order promoting me to 4th, a few laps later Rainer pitted and I was 3rd, then I came across Bjorn on 3 wheels and I was suddenly 2nd. "Can life get any better"? Well, erm "No" is the answer.

We entered the final lap and I had a healthy 0.5km lead over Olaf and was taking it really easy. Then without warning the engine blew up entering Fahreriagekurve, Had I been another few hundred meters further on I could probably have coasted to the line, but needed a shift-r and was faced with the dreaded "Track not clear" message so had to wait for Olaf to take my 2nd place before rejoining.

So, would I have taken 3rd at the start? You bet I would. But really annoyed at being let down by rubbish Italian engineering. :Ferrari

Congrats to Andre as usual and Olaf for 2nd place.

I don't like this track. On the one hand, I find it boring, and on the other, treacherous. The bumps in the left-hand corner in particular caused me major problems in pre-qualifying as soon as the tyres had done 15 laps (mainly because my rear tyres wore out twice as fast as the front ones, which led to nasty oversteer). That's why I even had to consider the two-stop option.
After adjusting the brake balance from 56% to 58% to distribute the tyre wear more evenly, I decided to make one stop after all. I was extremely careful in the aforementioned left-hand bend once the tyres had done ten laps...and I got through the complete race without crashing.
After my pit stop, I was last as usual – still ten laps to go. Then one after the other started having problems – including John in the last corner – so I ended up second. It was really crazy.

Congratulations to André and John! It was nice to be on the podium with you...

@André: I noticed that the image section slipped in the last livestream. That's why you can only see the upper half of the numbers in the bottom line (speed, etc.), which makes them difficult to decipher. Perhaps you could adjust this for the remaining races?

A special race in many ways. I started last but made up some ground and came up in the field due to other people's mistakes. I chased Olaf through a few laps but was also overtaken by Seb and Rainer. The Brabham didn't feel that easy to handle, especially out of the last corner, but then there were definitely good drivers was going to fight against here at the Salzburgring :daumenrauf: .
I agree with Olaf's comment on this track. The tire wear was high, and I went into the pits early. After a successful stop, I still tried hard in the next stint to continue to use these tires.

The warning that the tires had no more grip at the rear came quickly. I drove out and hit without any significant damage, was more careful, but not enough, broke one front wheel. I drove to the pits and got a new wheel. I chose to change the tires too, so I could be able to get to the finish in the few laps that were left. In this race I could have planned two stops as well.

During testing I tried different diffs without it making any difference to the tire wear, but a smoother ride probably has more effect. Don't underestimate overheating which probably has a big impact. Apart from those mishaps it was a very nice race. In any case, I set the fastest lap in the race.

Congratulations to André for a good win, Olaf who made a good run to second place and John who was unlucky so early in the race, had engine problems at the end, despite that he took third place! :daumenrauf:

Since everyone faced similar challenges, everyone deserves applause after this.

Thanks for the race, everyone!

See you all next
