2026

Post by Olaf Lehmann » 04 Jan 2026, 09:27

First of all, I wish everyone a healthy New Year.

Now that we have a new interested driver in Robert and there is obviously a very hard core of extremely loyal members here, I think I will go into the new season after all.

I think there are a few small things we could and should change this year: :deal:

1. What bothered me the most: I was usually the last to finish, but I ended up as forth in the rankings.
This is obviously due to the high points awarded for our number of participants. I applied last year's results to the normal 67-point system...

Code: Select all

Cooper	100	NOR	Andre Jahren 9	9	9	4	9	6	9	9	9	9	9	9
Brabham	56	NOR	Bjorn L Finnestad	2	6	4	9	6	4	2	4	1	6	6	6
Honda	49	GER	Rainer Alpen 3	4	6	3	3	9	4	3	3	3	4	4
Ferrari	32	GBR	John Hammonds 4	2 6	2	2	6	6	4
Lotus	26	GBR	Seb Gore 6	3 4	1	3	1	2	4 2
Eagle	25	GER	Olaf Lehmann 1	1	3	2	1	3	1	2	6	2 3
...and lo and behold, I'm sixth (which is more in line with reality). With high points like in 2015, drivers who can't take part in races or who finish the race instead of doing ShiftR are at too much of a disadvantage.
I think the real 9/6/4/3/2/1 system is perfect for us.

2. The patch worked quite well, but I did notice a few minor flaws:
a) The front tyres wear too little compared to the rear tyres. On some tracks, I had to shift the brake balance extremely forward to prevent the car from oversteering too much when the tyres wore out.
b) After using ShiftR, the partial engine damage should be more severe. When you use ShiftR, you should be forced to pit again (OK, maybe not in the last/penultimate lap, but otherwise yes).

I have adjusted these two points in the patch and already exchanged it and named it v851. As usual, the link can be found in the first post in the dirtgearpatch thread.

3. It seems to me that we are driving less difficult tracks than before. I think we could definitely deal with one really difficult track a year. My idea would be to try the Nürburgring.

Good to hear that you are motivated for a new season, Olaf.

And really good news that we will get a new driver in the league.

1. Let's move back to the original point system. If we at some point will be a lot of more drivers, we can evaluate again. As I think it will be good if all drivers would have points to race for.

2. Great work. I will set up a server with the new patch.

3. Let's add Nürburgring this year.

4. What do you all think about the number of races per season? We have now tried 18, 14, and 12.

5. Shall we try a new race day? What about Sunday evening? Maybe at the same time as we have had on Thursdays. 8pm GMT+1 winter time, GMT+2 summer time

6. Track suggestion

22/25 Jan - Jops Siffert
12/15 Feb - Solitude
05/08 Mar - Balcarce
26/29 Mar - Watkins Glen 71
16/19 Apr - Sandown
07/10 May - Sachsenring
28/31 May - Oulton Park
18/21 Jun - Nürburgring
03/06 Sep - Bathurst
25/27 Sep - Mexico
15/18 Oct - Phillip Island
05/08 Nov - Boreham
26/29 Nov - V.I.R.
17/20 Dec - Brands Hatch

4. My favourite race interval is three weeks and a summer break.

5. For me Sunday afternoon/evening should work if it's not before 16MEZ.
But it's important to hear what everybody says to avoid that we'll be lesser than Thursday.

6. OK

It's a nice calendar for the season and good to include Nurburgring along with these good tracks.

So far Thursdays have been fine for me, but Sundays are going well too.

I guess DGP with the update that Olaf has arranged is now better than ever.

Nice calendar as always!
Nürburgring, hmm, never seen the chequered flag in a 1 hour race...

Thursday is good for me I'm used to.

Because we use INT mode we all have good chances to see the checked flag, you too, Rainer! ;)
Thursday is good for me I'm used to.
I also like the calendar. I would like to add it to GPLWeekly, but the day of the week is still open.
As I said, Thursday and Sunday evenings work for me. My suggestion was made in the hope that we might be able to attract a few more drivers.
Specifically: Will tries to ride from time to time and, when there was a delay once, wrote in the chat that he should rather go to work (in the USA, 8 p.m. means 2 p.m., I think). We've also had South Americans like Enrique, who are likely to have similar problems.
I also thought of Claudio Callipo, who was a fan of the dgp during the EOLC days, but who wrote to me some time ago that he has to work on Thursday evenings. And Carsten Grelck regularly rides on our server. Maybe he has time and feels like it on Sundays?

But I definitely didn't want any of the reliable drivers to stop participating because of the change. Especially since it's uncertain whether the change of date will actually bring in new people.
So the question is: Rainer, are you available on Sunday (selfmade same question to Seb, Alessandro and John also)? And could you perhaps say something to Carsten?
If you can't make it on Sunday, I would definitely be in favour of sticking with Thursday.

Hi Guys,

I've been following this discussion closely and first thing is, I'm really happy you are up for it Olaf.

Rainer, don't feel bad, I've never even done a race at the Nurburgring. Can't wait to try though.

Obviously I agree with the points change.

Regarding Thursday v Sunday discussion, both have their merits, for me Sunday would be fun on a Grand Prix weekend. Racer heaven :daumenrauf:

Challenging calendar too. Good choices and the number of races and the spacing works nicely.

My overall impression: I'm excited to get back in the saddle. Thanks as always for organising and running another season guys, you are absolute stars!

See you on track everyone.

Cheers,
Seb.
