Post by Olaf Lehmann » 01 Mar 2026, 09:31

track.ini with wider grid and more distance between pitstalls:
http://race.eolc.de/Olaf_Lehmann/trackiniBALCARCE.zip

Don't forget: We use INT mode. If you get stuck in hay bales, land on the roof, or lose a wheel...you can press ShiftR and continue the race...

Good racing for everyone
Olaf

Thanks Olaf for the clarification, very appreciated. However It is still not clear to me if dialing "ShiftR" must be followed by a pit-in.

However It is still not clear to me if dialing "ShiftR" must be followed by a pit-in.
ShiftR in normal gpl and ShiftR with dirtgearpatch are different. In normal gpl the car will be repaired and you get small restrictions (cold tyres and more fuel. Dgp is stronger: No cold tyres, no refueling, in principle the car will be repaired too, but you get
1. A gear failure (gear 1,2 ,3 or 4 gets the ratio of the next higher gear)
2. reduced engine power
3. (only if you had lost a wheel) a tyre damage
Because of the stronger restrictions you should be careful with ShiftR. In many cases it's better to bring the car back to the pits - if it's possible.
At the pits you can make a repair stop (stop your car at the right place at your pitstall, choice reverse gear and wait 15s for the second bump). In this case you get no restrictions, the car will be repaired, nothing else. But if you go to your pitstall and presses ShiftR without waiting, you get the two or three restrictions, see above.

If you have made ShiftR the way to bring the engine power back is to make a repair stop .
If you had lost a wheel you have to do a tyre changing too (wait after the repairing another 15seconds and choice neutral or any gear, but not reverse gear).
There is no way to repair the gear failure.

So...if you had made ShiftR in the last laps, maybe it makes sense to make no repairing stop, but if you made it earlier in the race you'll loose a more time because of the missing engine power as you loose for the repairing stop.

Gratulations to Roberto! :prost: You won the race, but also:
- you was the most consistent driver
- you was the only one who stayed on track in every lap
and you has driven your fastest lap in the last lap (tyre wear is no problem for you it seems).

I had much tyre wear at Balcarce - values more than 100 after the halv race distance. So I thought about two tyre stops, but at the end I decided to make one stop.
In qualifiing I made two stints with quali setup, then I made a brake . With less minutes to go, I began to drive with fuel tank and would practise pitstops. At the first try I missed the entry totally. At the second try I don't see the board. Next try the same. I don't found the board. And qualy time was over...and race starts. I hadn't time to put more fuel in my tank (I had only 36 litres in my tank).
During racing I don't know if I would in able to refuel my car. For safety I drived into pitlane one lap before my tank was empty. One more time I don't see my board...but fortunately Björn was in pits. So I could see he stops more on the ride (near by the many parking cars). So I drive another lap and then I found my board (it was really very hard to see before the parking cars on the right). PUH!!!

But I have to say: Without that problem I wasn't better than 5th.

Grats to Seb and Björn for completing podium!

See u all at Watkins!
Olaf

The race went better for me than I expected because I assumed that this track was not the best fit for me and not for the Honda too. Two in the lead dropped out, but I reached the podium and am very happy to finish with good laps all the way to the finish.

I had to work extra hard on the setup to get down to expected lap times. I tweaked the wheel angles and tried many differentials, spring stiffness, etc. With cold tires the balance was very good, but when the tires reached temperature, the car understeered to a extent no matter what I did. I had problems with the brakes locking the wheels and had to adapt to braking earlier, especially in the first tight corner. I anticipated challenges and always gained new insights, but it's important to acknowledge the positive aspects as well. So, I vote 5/5 points for this race. :)

Congratulations Roberto! Impressive to start the race at the back and drive so well to first place. I see you changed gears early and that also helps to take care of the tires. Congratulations Seb for second place! Good fight! :daumenrauf:

Thanks for the race and for the organization! :daumenrauf:
See you all at WatGlen
Bjørn
